We have moved

To all of Our Little Family’s loyal followers……we have moved to a self hosted domain and to add to the confusion we have also changed our name to Snow Globe Shaken.

New blog address: www.snowglobeshaken.com

Why did we move?

I chose to move the blog because having a self hosted domain gives you more options and freedom. I decided to do it now while the blog was still young so that it wouldn’t cause problems later.

Why Snow Globe Shaken?

For years anytime life was going smoothly and all of a sudden BAM, total pandemonium, I would say someone just shook my snow globe. People have told me that they had never heard it put like that before. I see a snow globe as a beautiful and peaceful little world right up until someone picks it up and shakes it. To me it seems like the perfect way to describe what happens to each and everyone at some point in their lives……..our Snow Globe has been shaken.

So I chose this name for my blog because life shaken or not makes up the heart of the blog. As I write about family, DIY, organization or life in general my heart goes into each post, my heart that lives in a Snow Globe Shaken.

So I hope you will hope on over and join us on Snow Globe Shaken!

Monday Movie Review

This weeks movie review is a recommendation from a good friend, we will call him “F” for this blog. F recommended last weeks movie The Dragon Pearl. This weeks movie he said was really good and he liked it enough to buy it. He is obsessed with all things zombie so this movie is right up his ally. Here are my thoughts:

20130812-000746.jpgWarm Bodies (2013)

From IMDb:

After R (a highly unusual zombie) saves Julie from an attack, the two form a relationship that sets in motion a sequence of events that might transform the entire lifeless world.

Director: Jonathan Levine
Writers: Jonathan Levine (screenplay), Isaac Marion (novel)
Stars: Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Analeigh Tipton

My Review

20130812-001622.jpg

I can honestly say I was surprised that I liked this movie, I mean it wasn’t the best movie ever but it was good. The idea of a zombie love story was a little odd, even Harrison said he didn’t want to watch a love story, but it came together well.

I found myself hoping the two would come together and “live happily ever after.” I really liked the flashbacks that showed more into Julie’s life before zombies.

The movie flowed really well right to the end with no slow points. All the actors did a fantastic job and the zombies looked great. There was quite a few parts that were so funny to.

I would recommend this as a funny movie to watch with friends.

Has anyone else seen Warm Bodies? What did you think?

Maybe F would like to add his review to the comments as it was his movie 🙂

Till next week

40 Bags in 40 Days {Week 4}

40 Bags

This week I didn’t get as much done as I had wanted to because it was finals week for me. Luckily I has some open days in my 40 so I’m good. So with the days I did have time, I worked on the mess I call my office. I found a lot of office supplies I have duplicates of because I couldn’t find the first. Has anyone else done this? Hopefully after this I won’t lose things anymore. So here are the photos, I am happy with the results so far.

20130811-221136.jpg

So as you can see the desk and my supply cabinet were a disaster. This is why I’m usually on my laptop in the living room instead.

……….and after

20130811-221304.jpg20130811-221327.jpg20130811-221339.jpg20130811-221350.jpg

And there is even empty space now! Moving the printer up to the shelf really opened the desk up for more working space. The little boxes are great for all the small office supplies.

How is everyone else doing this week? Any major decluttering done in your home?

The Renaissance Festival {Summer Bucket List}

20130810-214447.jpg

Today was the day for our long anticipated trip to the Sterling Renaissance Festival! We were both pretty excited. With tickets in hand we arrived at about 1 o’clock to enjoy the fest. This was my first trip but Harrison came a few years ago with his Dad.

I have to say that at first it was a bit overwhelming, there was a huge crowd, lots of vendors and people in costume every where. After a little bit I realized that was all part of the fun and really enjoyed myself.

The first stop was for a snack since we were both starving. Luckily I had looked on there website before the trip and printed out the list of different foods. They are even vegetarian friendly with hearts next to those items. I let Harrison choose where to go since he had been there before. He chose peasant bread for a snack. Peasant bread for those of you who don’t know is fried dough with butter, then you can add fruit, honey, syrup, cinnamon or garlic to it. I had honey and Harrison had garlic. So much for my diet!!

Next we stopped in a shop that sold shields and weapons, all handmade. Harrison chose the Painted Double Bladed Axe. Here he is making his angry face with his next axe.

20130810-221152.jpg

Then he went and threw daggers, shot a crossbow and threw darts. He made a least one at every stand.

20130810-221517.jpg

Then we stopped for a lemonade and watched the Queens parade go by. There were musicians, towns people and jokers all with the queen. They all were a lot of fun to watch and to listen to how they talk.

20130810-221834.jpg

We walked around and saw everything there was to see and looked in all the shops. We even spoke with one townsperson who convinced Harrison that he should have some ale! On the way out we stopped in the little gift shop then headed out.

What a great day! Has anyone else been to a Renaissance Festival this summer? How did you like it?

Blueberry Picking {Summer Bucket List}

20130809-231342.jpg

This morning Harrison and I met up with some friends to pick blueberries. Last night we has a major storm and half of the town was hit by flash floods so it was a bit soggy out. Today it was cloudy but not raining so we had great picking. There was hardly anyone there with us so we had the run of the field.

20130809-231645.jpg

The kids may have eaten every other berry they picked but we each ended up taking home about 4 pounds. Now we are going to freeze them with our other berries to use for smoothies and ice cream. We should be set for a while with all the berry picking this summer.

Did anyone else pick berries this summer?

Shawl

This week I made a shawl to bing with me to church because it is very cold during the service.

2013-08-08 20.58.43

The shawl is very soft and warm. I am sure it will keep me nice and warm during the services.

2013-08-08 22.08.15

I used Homespun yarn in the windsor color. I really like the purple and blue in this yarn and that is why I chose it. This is the first time I have worked with the Homespun so it was a little tricky at first but once I got used to working with it things worked up very quickly.

2013-08-08 20.58.31I worked this pattern in a half double crochet so it was tight enough for warmth but not to tight. It is 40 hdc’s wide and reaches from hand to hand. Please let me know if you would like directions for this shawl.

Did you make anything new this week?

Happy Birthday Mom

?????????????????

I wanted to dedicate this post to my Mom this morning. Today is her birthday and she deserves to be celebrated!

243518_1886288768985_7229564_o

My Mom has done so much for me in my life time that it would take an entire book to express how I feel. She has been there through my shy elementary days, my rebellious teenage years, my marriage, my first child and now my separation. She has been a rock in my life and I am sure I would have fallen apart with our her strength.

She has so many amazing qualities about her and I strive to be like her in everything I do. For her birthday this year she is off visiting one of her very good friends having a relaxing and fun filled week. She deserves it!

Happy Birthday Mom!!
